more than LEAN. Excellent.
LEAN is state of the art for more than 30 years. What is more?
the basis remains. execution changes.
Latest after the book "the machine that changed the world" LEAN is the standard when it comes to production, logistics or actually any process. The philosophy described consisting of continuous improvement and avoidance of waste still is the basis for the optimisation, especially of production processes. Most of the methods are based on it or are sub-sets like TQM, Six Sigma, TPM, PDCA, JIT, SMED,... . Everything is still valid and waste should always be avoided. But a lot has changed within these 30 years. Technologies have been developed. IT, motor and sensor technology are advanced.
So what can be more ? LEAN principles are very much based on manual or partially automated processes. And especially when it comes to automation a lot has been developed over the last 30 years. LEAN philosophy is applicable for automated processes as well but has to be adjusted. Additionally the question occurs if any LEAN principle is fitting for any business strategy. Is it for example o.k. to maximise OEE if the company is profitable because of its fast innovation cycle or innovative products. Or is flexibility and compromises with regard to OEE needed.
